AGRITURISMO I PITTI

From 7 January to 11 March 2012 the beautiful San Cristoforo Church in Lucca will be home to an exhibition of works by Chagall, entitled 'Chagall's Sprirtual Universe'. 20 works of art by the Russian maestro created between 1959 and 1982 will be on display. The exhibition includes extraordinary small-scale paintings such as 'L’âne blanc dans le bouquet' (1969-65) and 'Profil du peintre' which show hints of Chagall's childhood memories of Vitebsk.

The artist interprets blossoming love in 'Le bouquet jaune' (1975) and in the romantic 'Dans le ciel de Saint-Paul' (1980). There are also images of the circus with 'Le clown au visage bleu' (1980) and 'Le trapéziste' (1978-1980).
A self-portrait, 'Le peintre au village' (1980-1982), is also displayed.
In 'Le roi David' (1980), Chagall approaches religion, a theme which was particularly important to him. This ties in with the 105 copper etchings depicting Bible stories, created between 1931 and 1939, which are accompanied by a limited edition booklet by Ambroise Vollard signed by artist himself.
